Frequently ASked Questions

Achieving a flawless, professional finish with our microcement system is simple and efficient. Follow these easy steps to transform any surface:

Product information

Can I use this product on exterior walls?

Yes, our microcement is highly durable and suitable for exterior walls. It’s resistant to weather conditions, ensuring a seamless and long-lasting finish outdoors.

How is this different from polished concrete?

Microcement is thinner and more versatile than polished concrete. It can be applied directly over existing surfaces without adding much thickness, making it easier to work with. Plus, it typically offers a more uniform, seamless finish and comes in a wide range of color options.

Do I need any special cleaning products to clean the surface?

No, you don’t need special products. A mild, pH-neutral cleaner and a soft cloth or mop are usually all it takes. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive tools to maintain the smooth finish.

Why does my microcement surface look blotchy and not one solid color?

The natural color variance you’re noticing in your microcement is intentional and a key part of its unique aesthetic. Microcement is designed to showcase subtle variations in color, which adds depth and character to any surface, making each installation truly one-of-a-kind. This variability is part of what makes microcement so appealing for both residential and commercial spaces.

Is Microcement applied over plaster

Terraesta Microcement is applied over plaster, provided the surface is smooth and properly prepared. It eliminates the need for a skim/acian coat and a paint finish, making it a cost-effective choice for new builds.

Is this suitable for commercial purposes such as restaurants, hotels, or bars?

Yes. For commercial environments, including areas like bar counters that may face staining from drinks or food, we recommend applying a heavy-duty, stain-resistant coating over the Microcement. This top layer will improve durability, resist spills, and maintain an attractive, long-lasting finish.

Do I need expansion joints when applying microcement?

No, expansion joints are not necessary for microcement itself. As long as the substrate beneath the microcement is properly laid and designed to accommodate expansion, the microcement will perform seamlessly. Microcement is inherently flexible and can adapt to slight movements in the substrate, ensuring a durable and crack-free finish without the need for additional expansion joints.

Coatings

What coating should I use to achieve a glossy finish for either indoor or outdoor walls and floors?

Propan Multipox MX-98 is recommended for both internal and external surfaces, including floors. It provides a durable, glossy finish and is ideal when you want a sleek, polished look.

What coating should I use if I want a natural finish?

MU-210 Clear Coat is designed for exactly that. It preserves the original color and texture of exposed cement, brick, stone, and more, while adding a tough, water-repellent layer for long-lasting protection.

What coating should I use for interior walls that are not in wet areas (e.g., bedrooms or living rooms)?

Propan Multipurpose Wax is ideal for internal walls (except in bathrooms or other wet areas). It provides an excellent protective layer while maintaining the surface’s natural look.
